The 53-year-old billionaire industrialist and close friend of Prince William, also a familiar face in elite business circles and high-society events, reportedly swallowed a bee mid-game. That tiny insect may have triggered a fatal heart attack that ended his life.
Kapur’s death didn’t come quietly. It arrived like a shock, shaking everyone who knew him, even those who only followed his story from afar. His last Instagram post, just hours before the incident, mourned the Air India crash in Ahmedabad, writing, “Terrible news of the tragic Air India crash in Ahmedabad. My thoughts and prayers are with all the families affected. May they find strength in this difficult hour.”
In a cruel twist, those words of empathy for strangers now echo back at his own loved ones.
A Tragic Medical Emergency
Eyewitnesses at the match said Kapur looked visibly distressed before collapsing. Some reports suggest he may have swallowed a bee during play, leading to a sting inside the mouth. Medical experts note that internal stings can cause rapid swelling and airway blockage, making them far more dangerous than external ones. In some cases, this can also trigger a sudden cardiac episode, especially in individuals with underlying health issues.
Author and columnist Suhel Seth confirmed Kapur’s passing on X, writing, “Deeply saddened at the passing of @sunjaykapur: he passed away earlier today in England: a terrible loss and deepest condolences to his family and to his colleagues @sonacomstar. Om Shanti.”

Sunjay Kapur served as Chairman of Sona Comstar, a leading automotive technology company supplying electric and conventional vehicle components globally. He also led the Automotive Component Manufacturers Association (ACMA) as its President. As the son of Dr. Surinder Kapur, founder of the Sona Group, Sunjay carried forward the legacy of innovation in India’s automotive sector.
Beyond boardrooms and business titles, Kapur’s personal life had long been under public attention. He married Karisma Kapoor in 2003, and they had two children, Samaira and Kiaan, before divorcing in 2016. He later married entrepreneur Priya Sachdev, with whom he had a son, Azarias.
After news of his death surfaced, Kareena Kapoor Khan and Saif Ali Khan were seen visiting Karisma’s residence in Mumbai, as the family began to process the devastating loss.
