In a milestone moment for high school sports, AB Hernandez, a transgender athlete from Jurupa Valley High School in California, made history at the Roosevelt Invitational track meet over the weekend. Competing in the long jump and triple jump events, Hernandez not only dominated her competition but also set the highest outdoor long jump mark in the nation for a female athlete.
Hernandez’s performance was remarkable as she won in the long jump by nearly two feet and claimed the triple jump title with an even more commanding margin of three feet. This latest feat adds to her already impressive season, where she has consistently outperformed competitors by significant distances.
A High School Season Of Unstoppable Momentum
The Roosevelt Invitational wasn’t the first time AB Hernandez turned heads this season. Just weeks ago, she shattered the Ontario Relays Division 3 girls’ long jump record, winning by an astounding eight feet. Her dominance on the track and field circuit has fueled her ambition to become a state champion, a goal she is well on her way to achieving.
“Hopefully, I hit a 41 [footer] this year if it’s possible. Preferably at state so that I can possibly win,” Hernandez shared with the media, reflecting on her aspirations for the season.

Her success comes amid ongoing national debates over transgender athletes in women’s sports. Former President Donald Trump recently introduced the “Keeping Men Out of Women’s Sports” Act, which has faced resistance in states like California, where Governor Gavin Newsom has vowed noncompliance. The federal government, in response, has threatened to cut funding and investigate the state’s adherence to Title IX.
