A couple narrowly escaped death as they entered their vehicle just seconds before tragedy almost struck.
The incident occurred during a sudden and intense thunderstorm, leaving both man and woman in shock but fortunately unharmed.
The heart-pounding footage below shows a man and woman rushing out of their home and into their vehicle just seconds before a powerful bolt of lightning strikes the ground mere feet away.
Two seconds after their car doors close, the bolt strikes the ground.

In a witness statement, the man told reporters he was stunned not only by how close the lightning struck but also by the blinding brightness of the flash.

“It lit up everything like daylight for a split second,” he reportedly said.

Lightning Kills A Ton of People Each Year

About 40 million lightning strikes hit the ground in the United States each year, with Arkansas seeing around 800,000 strikes.
