A popular event at Lake Havasu City in Arizona could have easily turned fatal following a wild powerboat crash.
The 42 square-mile location, near the California border, is the host of the annual Desert Storm Shootout. This event, held over several days, features powerboats, and racers do their best to entertain spectators.
Two such crew members belonging to the Freedom One racing team got on board a custom 388 Skater branded America One on the day. The vessel boasts a pair of 4,000 horsepower engines that helped it peak a previous record, but it wasn’t without incident.
The racers got inside, hoping to break the Desert Storm Shootout’s top speed of 206 MPH. They reached 210 MPH before the boat suddenly launched out of the water, flipped several times in the air, and came crashing down.
