Footage of several occupants attempting to escape a sinking boat has surfaced online following what was a harrowing experience as an enjoyable ride went south.
A tourist excursion taking place via sea ended in a boat turning over off the coast of Bali. The vessel was carrying 89 occupants, some of whom had to break windows so they could get out.
The boat, named “The Tanis,” was traveling near the town of Sanur on Wednesday afternoon when it was struck by powerful waves and capsized. Fortunately, no deaths were reported.
Of the 89 occupants on board, 77 were tourists.
One of the women on the boat recounted the experience in an interview, revealing that most of the passengers were on shore by the time rescue efforts really got underway, while she and her company swam to a nearby boat that took them to safety.
“People smashed windows to escape. Most people were back on shore before life raft and life jackets were thrown out – locals and smaller boats rescued kids and those out first,” she said, per Daily Mail.
She added:

“We made it out, jumped into the water and swam to a nearby glass-bottom boat that took us back to shore. Luggage is still washing up and being collected by Tanis staff.”

The boat in question hadn’t been in operation that long, with reports indicating that it only worked for three months before the incident took place.
Of course, such vessels are built to withstand waves, so something else must have happened to cause it to flip. However, that information has not been disclosed, and we’re not sure it has even been determined.
