A man is reported to have died on Sunday after falling off the roof of the Excalibur Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas in what’s being described as “accidental death”
The man, a guest at the resort, is said to have broken a window in an attempt to sit on the red awning below, which collapsed under his weight, leading to a fatal fall.
One guest who was staying in the room above claims to have spoken to the victim right before he fell, but didn’t reveal the details of their conversation.
The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department had not released an official report at the time of writing, while local news outlets didn’t give extensive coverage. However, the story made it to social media shortly after, with the authorities having responded swiftly and cordoned off the scene.
It’s said that the lack of media coverage was intentional, as police and news outlets typically don’t give publicity to suicides to prevent copycat incidents, as well as out of respect for the grieving family.
A man fell off the roof of the Excalibur today, and a few people have asked why it's not being covered by local news outlets. There are several reasons, but it's mainly to prevent copycat incidents, respect privacy, and, yes, to protect the city's image as a tourist destination. https://t.co/uvHSyVlMRG pic.twitter.com/Fu8rrdF0dL

Locals, though, claim such incidents are not infrequent, but casinos are usually hushed about it.
“So sad, but suicides happen quite frequently on the Strip,” one longtime Vegas resident wrote on X. “Casinos keep it quiet. Lived here for 20 years. People lose money they can’t afford to lose.”
Other Sources Say The Man Survived The Fall From The Excalibur Hotel
Meanwhile, there have been claims on social media of the individual surviving the fall.
“The man ultimately jumped but is reported to have survived the fall,” one Instagram account reported.
Not much is known at this point, given the lack of media attention. But the story is likely to be covered now that it’s picking up speed online.
