Charlotte May Lee might not be seeing the outside of a prison wall for a very long time after her latest actions.
The British woman is making major headlines for several reasons. She was arrested in Sri Lanka after police allegedly found 101lbs (46kg) of the synthetic drug kush in her suitcases.
The 21-year-old from the United Kingdom was seized at Bandaranaike Airport in the Sri Lankan capital of Colombo. Lee, from south London, claimed the drug stash was planted in her suitcases without her knowledge, her lawyer, Sampath Perera, told the BBC.
The amount she had is reported to have a street value of $3.3 million.
Charlotte May Lee is being held in harsh conditions in a jail north of Colombo, where she has to sleep on a concrete floor.
Authorities flagged her based on travel patterns after another young British woman, Bella Culley, was arrested days earlier in Georgia, also after leaving Bangkok. The 18-year-old was allegedly caught with more than 30 pounds of marijuana and hashish and is now facing charges that could land her in prison for life.
Lee claims she had no idea the drugs were in her bags. “I thought it was going to be filled with all my stuff,” she told Daily Mail from prison.

“They must have planted it then. I know who did it.”
She is facing 25 years in prison. In the meantime, Lee’s mugshot was released online, and she is going viral.
