The World Series of Poker is facing a massive scandal. In fact, it’s being described as the worst scandal in WSOP history, with two players being accused of attempting to pull off a “million-dollar heist on the game’s biggest stage.”
The latest controversy involving the famous poker tournament has seen allegations of collusion and chip dumping surface following the $1,500 ‘Millionaire Maker’ event.
The grievances stem from Jesse Yagimuma’s dramatic comeback in which he overcame a 10:1 chip deficit to beat James Carroll for the bracelet and $1.26 million.
But here’s where things get interesting. The Maryland native also had a ClubWPT Gold Rush ticket, which made him eligible for a bonus of another $1 million if he won a bracelet this summer.
World Series Of Poker Takes Drastic Action

Carroll, who did not have a ticket, is accused of putting on a passive show, raising softly, folding frequently, and making other suspicious moves.

Such play typically leads to a line of questioning no poker player wants to field, and, sure enough, viewers and social media users immediately suggested that Carroll may have lost on purpose so Yaginuma could win the bonus and they could split the total payday.
He is thought to have exhibited signs of chip dumping, which is strictly prohibited under WSOP rules and is obviously considered to be collusion.
The suspicions extend past social media as the tournament has withheld the bracelet and prize money pending an investigation.
Yaginuma won the Gold Rush Ticket in a nacho-eating contest sponsored by ClubWPT Gold and would be the second player to cash in on said bonus this summer should he be cleared.
The findings of the investigation will likely affect the way promotions and final table deals are organized moving forward.
It’s certainly one to pay attention to.
