Veteran golfer Marcel Siem detailed a wacky story about how he turned in one of the best performances of his life after a heavy night of drinking.
Golf legend John Daly has shared plenty of stories about playing PGA tournaments while hungover, and once admitted to downing five beers in the locker room during a Los Angeles Open tournament.
In the wild case of Marcel Siem, though, it wasn’t about sneaking alcohol in during a live round. He simply went from a night of partying straight to the first tee, without any sleep before teeing off.
During an interview with George Harper Jr. on the “Life on Tour” podcast, the 44-year-old Marcel Siem recalled the time when he had a tremendous showing at the 2015 Pebble Beach Pro-Am.
Having missed the cut the year prior, Siem told his caddy that they needed to change things up. Siem recalls that they drank Long Island Iced Teas, beers and champagne until 6:00 in the morning. His tee time was at 8:00, giving Siem two hours to get himself ready for the round:
“I think I had three course records completely hammered without sleep. I puked twice that round (the 2015 Pebble Peach Pro-Am)…I played with Kelly Slater, so that helped…He didn’t know. I told him after the round. I mean, he must have smelled it.”

American Brandt Snedeker would win the tournament that year with a ridiculous score of 22-under. Despite drinking excessively the night before with no sleep, Marcel Siem still finished 14-under to take home a nice payday of $95,200.
Marcel Siem Has Six Wins On The European Tour

Among the four PGA majors (The Masters, The Open, U.S. Open and the PGA Championship), Siem has never finished better than a tie for 12th (at the 2014 U.S. Open, won by fellow German Martin Kaymer.
Six of Siem’s eight career victories have come on the European Tour, including wins at the 2006 World Cup with Bernhard Langer in 2006, the 2024 Italian Open and the 2004 Alfred Dunhill Championship.
