President Donald Trump has generated controversy during his two terms in the White House by playing an excessive amount of golf, despite being ironically critical of Barack Obama for doing so while he was in office.
Ahead of the “Big Beautiful Bill” vote, Donald Trump played golf with CIA Director John Ratcliffe and Republican Senators Lindsey Graham, Rand Paul and Eric Schmitt on Saturday:
Oh, by the way: the golf team of @POTUS, Sen. @RandPaul, and I defeated the duo of @SenEricSchmitt and @CIADirector. ⛳️

Proud to announce no casualties. A lot of fun!
Big Beautiful Bill on the way. 🇺🇸
Folks have also wondered about Trump’s skill level on the greens, given how much time he spends there, along with his penchant for exaggerating. In 2017, Golf Digest reported that President Trump has a 2.8 handicap, which means he’ll shoot two to three shots over par in an average round.
As far as non-professional golf handicaps go, that’s a reasonably solid number to possess. Then again, one can argue that Donald Trump should be even higher given how much time he’s spent on the greens in his adult life.
Trump defeated Kamala Harris in the 2024 United States presidential election to secure a second term. He became just the second U.S. president to serve two non-consecutive terms, a feat previously only reached by Grover Cleveland.
