Rory McIlroy recently found himself making headlines with his quest for the perfect golfing tools.
At the Arnold Palmer Invitational, McIlroy faced a tough choice during the tournament. He had been experimenting with the new TaylorMade Qi35 driver and fairway woods, but after the first three rounds, the comfort he sought just wasn’t there. On the final day, he got back to his trusty Qi10s, but that choice came with a bit of weight in his pocket.
As it turned out, Rory McIlroy’s Qi10 clubs were back at his home in Palm Beach, about two-and-a-half hours away from the tournament in Orlando. Not willing to go another day without his preferred equipment, McIlroy had the clubs Ubered overnight.

Early Tuesday morning, Rory McIlroy talked about what it might look like when he steps away from PGA Tour golf and the appreciation he has for the longevity of golf careers. ⬇️
However, this was no ordinary ride. The trip cost a staggering $665, plus a $330 tip, bringing the total to nearly $1000. Brad Faxon, McIlroy’s putting coach and a PGA Tour winner himself, shared the amusing detail during a conversation on the Sky Sports Golf Podcast.
On Sunday, McIlroy didn’t have the performance he hoped for, carding a level-par 72 to finish tied for 15th. Nonetheless, he remains focused on the upcoming Players Championship, where he is just two shots behind the leaders.

Ernie Els Calls Out Rory Mcllroy For His Comments On Senior Tour

While the four-time Major Championships winner Rory McIlroy remains peculiar in choosing his favorite tools to blast out golf balls, he’s not looking to compete post-50. During a press conference, McIlroy, now 35, declared that he has no intention of playing on the senior tour.
“Absolutely not. I will not play Champions Tour golf. Look, I’ve said a lot of absolutes in my time that I’ve walked back, but I do not envision playing Champions Tour golf. Something has went terribly wrong if I have to compete at golf at 50,” Rory said when asked if he “still have the burn” to play the senior tour.
However, his comments did not age well actually. Ernie Els, the former PGA Tour Champion, dispelled Rory’s beliefs.
“Interesting to read @McIlroyRory comments today. At 35 years old I was also bullet proof saying things about not playing past 50. I’m 55 now and laughing at my comments from back then. @ChampionsTour golf is so fulfilling with a great bunch of players we all grew up together from junior golf. Our sponsors and partners are wonderful companies and people. Competition is a powerful tool!” Els tweeted.

Bob Estes also joined the conversation, pointing out that many players still compete on the Champions Tour because they love golf, not out of obligation.
