Rory McIlroy wants a break.
McIlroy admits that he is looking forward to taking a break ‘mentally’ as he prepares to head back to the UK after a whirlwind few months Stateside.
The Northern Irishman experienced the highest of highs after he won the Masters in April, becoming only the sixth male golfer in history to achieve a career Grand Slam.
Then, he began to experience the lowest of lows as he started to shun the media at competitions, skipping interviews while struggling for form at both the US Open and PGA Championship.
The recent Masters champ also did not play at Memorial, which would’ve been fine had he contacted Jack Nicklaus, who founded the tournament and is its face.
Nicklaus revealed he was surprised Rory McIlroy was not in the field for the first time since 2017 and that he hadn’t spoken to him since McIlroy won the green jacket to complete the career Grand Slam.
These days, McIlroy is taking two weeks off after he finished in a tie for sixth place at the Travelers Championship in Cromwell, Connecticut, over the weekend.

“I think more so than anything else it’ll just be good for me mentally to take a little bit of a break and get back to my neck of the woods, get back to the U.K. for a little bit,” McIlroy told reporters after his final round on Sunday.
On top of that, McIlroy and his wife, Erica Stoll, are currently in the process of building a new mansion in England.
“I’m excited for that and I’ve alluded to the fact I probably haven’t taken enough time off or time to reflect after what happened in April,” McIlroy added, referring to his first Masters win. “So I’m excited to do a little bit of that over these next two weeks.”
When Will Rory McIlroy Play Again?

Rory McIlroy finished tied for 6th place at the 2025 Travelers Championship, three shots behind the winner, Keegan Bradley.
Despite the low finish, it was actually his best result since the Masters.
Following the Travelers Championship, he is scheduled to play in the Genesis Scottish Open, which will be held from July 10 to July 13.
Once that is done, McIlroy will play at The Open Championship.
