Charley Hull didn’t appear too happy with Lexi Thompson during the first round of the U.S. Women’s Open.
The tournament kicked off at Erin Hills Golf Course in Wisconsin on Thursday, with Hull, Thompson, and Nelly Korda featuring in the opening round.
The first hole was pretty tense, with Hull visibly frustrated by Thompson’s slow play.
Pace has been an issue for players over the last few years, and Hull is known to be especially peeved by slothgolf. The Brit was heard lashing out at other golfers over their lack of urgency last season and even offered a solution.
“It’s crazy,” she said. “I’m quite ruthless, but I said, ‘Listen, if you get three bad timings, like every time there’s a two-shot penalty, if you have three of them, you lose your Tour card instantly…’ I’m sure that would hurry up a lot of people.”
She did admit that she didn’t expect the LPGA to ever consider such a penalty, given how drastic it is.

Lexi Thompson was one of those who agreed with Charley Hull.
“I definitely think slow play is an issue,” she said before the CME Group Tour Championship in 2024. “Rounds shouldn’t take more than four and a half hours, especially in threesomes.”
Even so, it didn’t appear that she was quick enough for Hull on Thursday, as a clip showed the latter looking annoyed while Lexi lined up a short putt.

It seems Charley might be frustrated with Lexi’s pace of play. A couple of deep breathes and muttering something.

That’s one way to get someone to go back to smoking on the golf course.
It’s probably how NBA players feel about Giannis Antetokounmpo’s free-throw routine.
