Cameras caught Rory McIlroy’s epic seven-word message after winning the Masters for the first time in his illustrious career.
After years of heartbreak at Augusta, Rory McIlroy finally captured the green jacket on Sunday, defeating Justin Rose in a thrilling one-hole playoff. With the victory, McIlroy becomes the sixth male golfer to complete the grand slam (The Masters, The Open/British Open, U.S. Open and the PGA Championship).
After soaking in the moment, a mic’d up McIlroy composed himself and could be heard saying “I’ve gotta go get a green jacket,” leading to this thunderous reaction from the crowd:

McIlroy finally erased the “choker” label at Augusta by rewriting history. He blew a four-shot lead on the back nine, making bogeys on holes 11, 15 and 18 to let Justin Rose back in the game.
But Rory McIlroy redeemed himself with a birdie on the first playoff hole (Rose made a par), to secure the green jacket. Rose finished in second place at the Masters for the third time, also losing a tiebreaker to Sergio Garcia in 2017.

McIlroy had an infamous collapse at the 2011 Masters, beginning the next decade-plus of painful finishes at Augusta. He finished 4th in 2015 and tied for fifth at the 2018 and 2020 Masters tournaments.
The 35-year-old has finally climbed the golf mountaintop, though, forever erasing the notion that he can’t “win the big one.” With five majors and the golf grand slam completed, McIlroy has cemented himself as one of the all-time greats.
