Phil Mickelson may be a two-time PGA Champion with six majors under his belt, but the golf icon sure looked like a rookie during Friday’s round at the Quail Hollow Club.
The 54-year-old Phil Mickelson, known for his excellent short game during his career, took himself out of contention with one terrible hole on Friday. And let’s just say if you’re an avid golfer who struggles with your short game, let “Lefty” remind you that even the pros have bad days on the beach.
Mickelson’s round went down the drain during the 12th hole, a par-4. These are supposed to be among the easier holes for professionals, especially short game specialists like Mickelson.
It took Phil Mickelson not one..but four (!) shots to get his ball out of the bunker on the nightmare hole. The result? A score of eight on the hole, AKA a quadruple-bogey:

Mickelson finished nine over and missed the cut, ending another disappointing bid for his seventh major. On the bright side, his performance on Friday will not be as memorable as the brutal meltdown on the 18th hole at the 2006 U.S. Open.
