Philadelphia Phillies color commentator John Kruk was less than thrilled with a fan’s ketchup placement on a hot dog during Saturday’s road game against the Washington Nationals.
John Kruk and Tom McCarthy kicked off another season together in the broadcast booth on Thursday, with the Phillies defeating their NL East rivals 7-3 in 10 innings. On Saturday, the Philadelphia’s bats came out to swing again as they cruised to an 11-6 victory at Nationals Park.
During the broadcast of Saturday’s games, the NBC Sports Philadelphia cameras zoomed in on a pair of hot dogs that a fan purchased. The hot dog on the bottom had ketchup placement so bizarre that it drew the ire of Mr. Kruk.
“What is that? Not good. Not good placement,” John Kruk said.
As far as ballpark food goes, though, we’d say this fan’s ketchup placement is certainly far from the strangest thing we’ve seen. I mean, the Phillies are serving s’mores quesadillas, and the Toronto Blue Jays introduced cotton candy fries.

Kruk spent his first four seasons in the majors with the San Diego Padres before beginning a nine-year career with the Phillies in 1989. The move served Kruk well, as he earned three straight All-Star game appearances from 1991 to 1993 and led them to a World Series appearance in the latter year.
John Kruk finished his career with 100 home runs, 592 RBI and a superb .300 batting average with a .789 OPS. Kruk batted .300 or better in seven of his 10 MLB seasons.
