Brandon Marsh might have just made the defensive play of the season, and he did it with the game on the line.
In a tense 10th inning against the Oakland Athletics on Saturday night, the Philadelphia Phillies center fielder came up clutch with a cannon of an arm that stunned fans and kept the game alive.
With the bases loaded and no outs, Oakland’s Brent Rooker lifted a fly ball to center. Marsh set his feet, made the catch, and unleashed a laser to home plate.
Phillies catcher J.T. Realmuto didn’t flinch. He grabbed the throw and tagged out Logan Davidson, who was sprinting from third, to keep the game tied at 6-6.

The Phillies took full advantage in the 11th. Kyle Schwarber stepped up and delivered a two-run double to give Philly the lead. He then advanced to third on an obstruction call and later scored on Nick Castellanos’ sac fly to make it 9-6.
Reliever Max Lazar closed it out in the bottom half, picking up his first career save and securing the Phillies’ ninth straight win.
Philadelphia now sits at 34-18 and is one of the hottest teams in baseball. The A’s, on the other hand, dropped their 11th straight and fell to 22-31.
