Philadelphia Phillies slugger Bryce Harper is preparing for a strong 2025 season. Harper’s dream is to win the World Series with the Phillies. He’s even ready to switch positions for the betterment of the team. The Phillies were one of the many teams rumored to be in on Pete Alonso.
While Alonso eventually signed with the Mets, the Phillies were also one of his top suitors. Harper recently touched upon Alonso and how he was ready to move to the outfield. The slugger is still ready to give up his position if the Phillies get a strong first baseman.
“I’d be more than open to it if we had a guy like that, who was going to change our lineup or change the demeanor of our team. They like me at first base. But I’d go out there to have a guy who was going to play first base and hit 35 or 40 homers,” Bryce Harper said.
Despite making room for Alonso, the Phillies were unable to seal the deal. Harper even spoke to Scott Boras about moving to the outfield.

“When Pete was on the block still, I kind of sat there and was like, ‘Hey, why not?’ When we talked about it, I kind of just reiterated to the Phillies and Scott Boras that I’m willing to move out there if it’s going to help us. I love playing first base. It’s been great. But if it’s going to help us win, I’d go back out there,” Harper continued.

The Phillies and Harper are looking forward to signing a long-term deal. Harper is most comfortable in Philadelphia. He’s a fan favorite, and he loves to wear the Phillies uniform. It’s only natural for the team to try and extend the slugger.
Unsurprisingly, Harper mentioned that he wants to remain on the team for a long time. While it’s not urgent, Harper has made his thoughts clear.
“I haven’t really thought too much about that. I want to be here for a long time — playing into my 40s. I mean, that’s the biggest thing for me. So I want to get that done,” Bryce Harper said via Heavy.com.
Harper is entering his 14th season, and his contract with the team is extended to 2031. Phillies fans will be extremely happy to retain their favorite player for longer. Meanwhile, Mets fans are upset for missing out on Jose Iglesias.
