Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Bobby Miller took a 106 MPH line drive to the head in Thursday’s spring training opener against the Chicago Cubs in a horrific scene, but he thankfully avoided a serious injury.
In the top of the third inning of Thursday’s game, Miller delivered an 80 MPH pitch to Chicago infielder Michael Busch. The 27-year-old got the bat on the ball and crushed a 106 MPH liner that hit Miller directly in the head:

Bobby Miller stayed down for several moments but was able to get up on his own and was taken out of the game. Afterward, the 25-year-old Miller took to X/Twitter to thank fans for their support:
Thank you to everyone who has reached out. Really means a lot. Scary moment I’m good! All praise to the man above🙏 can’t wait to get back on the mound💪🏼

This wasn’t the only injury scare in Major League Baseball on Thursday, as New York Mets All-Star Pete Alonso was hit in the face by a ball during a practice session. Thankfully, he also avoided a significant injury and returned to the field soon after.
Bobby Miller was the final first-round pick in the 2020 MLB Draft (29th overall by the Dodgers). The Louisville product showed promise in 2023 by going 11-4 with a 3.76 ERA and 119 strikeouts in 124.1 innings pitched.

Miller’s inconsistent production on the mound, however, led to him splitting the 2024 season with the Dodgers and the Oklahoma City Baseball Club Triple-A squad in the Pacific Coast League. Last season, Miller went 2-4 with an 8.52 ERA with the Dodgers.
Bobby Miller Looks To Win A Spot In Dodgers Rotation

Miller faces quite the uphill climb toward securing a spot in the Dodgers’ rotation. The defending World Series champions boast a stacked rotation led by two-way superstar Shohei Ohtani, Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Blake Snell, Tyler Glasnow and prized free agent signing Roki Sasaki.
With Clayton Kershaw and Dustin May also in the mix, Dave Roberts has countless options for working his rotation. If anything else, Miller could start as a special weapon out of the bullpen.
