The Colorado Rockies reached a new low on Sunday afternoon, setting an unfortunate MLB record for the worst start in league history. With a 5-3 loss to the New York Mets at Citi Field, the Rockies dropped to 9-50, becoming the first team in modern baseball history to lose 50 games before earning their 10th win.
The previous low mark had stood for decades. Only four other teams had ever played 55 or more games without reaching 10 wins. Now, the 2025 Rockies are alone in the record books, with 59 games played and little to show for it.

After losing to the Mets today, they now have a 9-50 record, which is the most games played by any team in baseball history before earning their 10th win.
Only four teams had played 55 or more games…
The Mets swept Colorado in the three-game series and have now dropped eight straight games. They have also been swept 10 times in their first 20 series, matching futility marks set by the 1962 Mets, 1970 Brewers, and 1994 Athletics.
Another Close Game, Another Loss

The Rockies actually showed signs of the fight early. Orlando Arcia opened the scoring with a solo home run in the first inning, and rookie Tyler Freeman tied the game at 3-3 with a two-run blast in the fifth. But Francisco Lindor answered back for the Mets with a solo homer, and Juan Soto added a long insurance shot in the eighth.
Colorado starter Carson Palmquist allowed four runs in 4 2/3 innings while striking out eight. Conversely, Mets pitcher Clay Holmes delivered a strong outing, going seven innings and giving up just three runs on three hits. Edwin Díaz locked up the save, his 13th of the season.

“You can either fight or not fight. I don’t think not fighting is going to work,” Rockies catcher Jacob Stallings said postgame. “We have a really good group of guys in this locker room. We have been playing a lot better baseball, we just haven’t been able to get over that hump.”
The Rockies will now look to stop the bleeding as they head to Miami for a three-game set against the Marlins starting Monday.
