The Chicago Cubs are riding high this season. They are currently 40-25 and leading the National League Central. The biggest difference for them this season has been the performance of Kyle Tucker, who is leading the Cubs’ offense.
However, there is still some uncertainty over whether the Cubs will offer him a hefty contract extension. When asked recently about the possibility of extending Tucker beyond this season, Cubs president Jed Hoyer gave an honest and telling response that invoked one of the Yankees’ boldest recent moves.
“Obviously, a player like him, you’d love to be able to keep him long term,” Hoyer said. “But I mean, the Yankees are having a really good season this year, they didn’t sign Juan Soto and they gave up a lot to go get him. Is that trade worth it? That’s something that can be debated.”
His comments hinted that the Cubs could explore other directions, depending on how the season unfolds.
Kyle Tucker Delivering At The Plate For Contending Cubs

Through mid-June, Tucker has been one of Chicago’s offensive anchors. He’s batting .279 with 13 home runs and 41 RBIs, with a .912 OPS. After a slow start, his bat has come alive in the last month, and he’s looked every bit like the All-Star slugger the Cubs hoped for when they brought him in.

In Game 63 against the Tigers, Tucker recorded two hits and an RBI double, continuing a productive stretch that is helping keep the Cubs competitive in the NL Central.
Tucker is in the final year of his deal, and speculation is growing about whether the Cubs will make a long-term commitment or consider moving him ahead of the trade deadline. Earlier, MLB analyst Ken Rosenthal stated that it is in the Cubs’ best interest to keep Tucker.
“They are getting some excellent work out of their other offensive players as well. But the future of this team beyond this season depends upon, in my opinion, whether they have Tucker or a player like him. If they don’t, they are sort of back to square one”, Ken said.
For now, Tucker continues to let his bat do the talking. Whether it leads to a new deal or a new destination remains to be seen.
