The Los Angeles Dodgers were dealt a 6-1 loss by the New York Mets on Wednesday night, but the final score wasn’t the only concern. Struggling outfielder Michael Conforto once again failed to deliver at the plate, going 0-for-3 with a strikeout. The outing marked yet another hitless night in a season that has been filled with frustration for the former All-Star.
Conforto, now hitting just .165 on the year, has managed only 3 home runs and 9 RBIs in 170 at-bats. Expectations were high when the Dodgers signed him this offseason, but his extended slump has quickly turned into a problem the club can no longer ignore.
Following the loss, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts shared a candid assessment of Conforto’s current form, pointing to a player caught between trying too hard and being too tentative.
“Trying to Do Too Much” – Roberts Still Searching For Answers

The Dodgers’ manager added that he’s been showing continued belief by keeping Conforto in the lineup, hoping a turnaround is still possible. “Even today, I thought he had a really good at-bat… he lined it to Nimmo,” Roberts said. “But just got to keep staying confident.”
“I think he wants to pick his teammates up, and there’s a little bit of trying too hard in those spots,” Roberts said postgame. “At times, I think he’s trying to do too much. And then conversely, I think at times he’s a little too passive,” Roberts said.

Conforto has just one home run and four RBIs over his last 30 games, batting .152 in that stretch. While the Dodgers have battled injuries and inconsistency across the roster, his lack of production stands out, especially for a veteran expected to stabilize the middle of the order.
With the trade deadline looming and playoff expectations as high as ever, the Dodgers may soon be forced to make tough decisions.
