Even if the Dodgers are going into the playoffs with no obstructions, they still can’t ignore one fat outfield question.
The Dodgers have been undoubtedly playing at their very best but the outfield depth has been the next big thing after a troubling pitching lineup.
However, according to MLB insider Bob Nightengale, the Dodgers might be interested in acquiring outfielder Bryan Reynolds from the Pirates. Nightengale suggests that, although the Pirates have him under a long-term deal, they may consider moving him as they reshape their roster.
“Two intriguing players are third baseman Ke’Bryan Hayes and outfielder Bryan Reynolds. They were each expected to become cornerstone pieces of the franchise. And both have struggled, with the Pirates expected to put them on the market at the trade deadline. Reynolds is in the third year of an eight-year, $106.75 million deal, the largest in club history. Hayes is in the fourth year of an eight-year, $70 million extension,” Nightingale wrote.

Currently, the Dodgers are prioritizing pitching reinforcements due to injuries in their starting rotation and bullpen. However, strengthening their outfield options is also a priority.
This comes at a time when Michael Conforto underperformed significantly this season, batting around .170. Former prospect James Outman has seen limited playing time. Additionally, utility players like Tommy Edman and Hyeseong Kim have been stepping in as needed.

Pirates Are Open To Listen Dodgers Offer For Their Star Sluggers

The Pittsburgh Pirates have not openly and officially sent their players to the trading block. But they haven’t said ‘no’ either.
The Pirates, while willing to listen to offers for most players, are holding on to their ace, Paul Skenes, and outfielder Oneil Cruz.
They might be open to trades for other players, including Reynolds and third baseman Ke’Bryan Hayes. Both of them have had underwhelming performances this season, but were initially seen as key pieces for the team’s future.

In the third year of an eight-year contract worth $106.75 million, Reynolds has had a rough season, hitting .238/.311/.385.
However, he has shown signs of a turnaround recently, having a good stretch over the last twelve games. For the Dodgers, acquiring Reynolds could provide a significant upgrade over Conforto while securing a reliable option in the outfield for the coming years.
