Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and the Toronto Blue Jays have yet to find common ground on an extension. Guerrero is comfortable in the Blue Jays uniform, and being a Canadian citizen makes things easy. The only issue is that the Blue Jays have yet to give him the right offer.
Toronto offered the slugger $340 million to remain in Toronto. As far as Guerrero is concerned, it’s not even close to what he wants. The All-Star will become a free agent after the 2025 season. If the Blue Jays fail to act quickly, they might miss out on one of their best players.
Former Marlins President David Samson says the Blue Jays can’t compromise on Vladdy’s demands. The only way to retain the slugger is by giving him what he wants.
“Vladimir Guerrero Jr. will not take a discount, period. He believes that his value as one of the power hitters. His deal is in order to reach a long-term deal with me. You’re gonna have to pay a premium and players have a right to do that. Guerrero has done something super smart. He has said my deadline is before I report to spring training,” Samson said.
He further stated that the Blue Jays must pay Guerrero $450 million to retain him. Samson believes that a deadline doesn’t matter if Vladdy get what he wants.

“We’ve worked extremely hard on keeping Vlad here for a long time. The desire is strong, and we will continue to do that. We will never close the door. Everything needs to be factored in, but it needs to be factored in historically and not reactively. Being disciplined to our valuations, being disciplined to how we think about building the best possible roster, there’s so many variables,” Atkins said via Sportsnaut.
The Blue Jays just need to go all out and give Vladimir Guerro Jr. what he wants. If they fail, Guerrero might never return to Toronto. MLB trade rumors continue to swirl around the Padres as spring training nears.
