MLB sideline reporter Wiley Ballard is being lauded for having immense game and being a “dawg” following his exploits at last night’s Braves-Blue Jays game.
Baseball broadcasts can throw up just about anything, and, as die-hard fans will tell you, you’re likely to see something unique every time you tune in.
Ballard made sure the sport’s coverage lived up to its reputation on Monday night as he landed a female fan’s number on live TV. The macking went down after the FanDuel broadcast cut to him at the top of the fifth inning.
The reporter was shown standing between two blonde women who had been taking the game in from the rooftop seats and got a bit of a conversation going after getting their names, although he badly butchered one of them.
“Okay, Wiley. You’ve got four innings to get the numbers,” one of the guys in the booth told him after he joked that he would continue to work from up there for the rest of the night.
He pulled out his phone and told one of the ladies that his colleagues wanted him to get her number. She didn’t seem to believe him at first as she could not hear the audio coming from the booth.
“I’m dead serious. They’re saying it in my ear right now. She doesn’t believe me. She thinks I’m making this up,” Ballard said.

“The best part of this right now is that Wiley could totally be faking it,” another booth announcer said. “This might be the new move. Just walk around with a FanDuel microphone and an earpiece in and convince fans that they’re actually on TV.”
“I should have thought of this years ago,” Ballard remarked before proudly announcing that he’d gotten the number.

The camera did show the fan, named Lauren, appearing to put her number into Wiley’s phone, and he’s being praised for it.
