Former Los Angeles Dodgers star Joe Kelly opened up about a harrowing moment during the USSSA World Series. Kelly shared a story that many fans don’t know. Despite being a well-known figure in the big leagues, Kelly was unable to see what was coming at the USSSA World Series.
Kelly was a coach at the USSSA Lake Area Rattlers. While the team was playing their last game, Kelly witnessed something he would never forget. The former pitcher was reading the opposition’s lineup when his team had a 4-3 lead. A fan started yelling at him, and what he said was terrifying for the Dodgers star.
Here’s the frightening experience Kelly shared.
“I have my glasses on and like ‘Are you afraid you’re going to lose to Assault? I was like, ‘What?’ and then this person leans over, ‘Yeah, you heard me. Are you afraid you’re going to lose to Assault? And then, all of a sudden, I get my hat flicked off. Like, who does that?” Joe Kelly said.
“So then I go on the ground to pick it up and turn around and all of a sudden a fist punches me in the forehead,” Kelly continued.
Things got out of hand, and the umpires were forced to end the game. Kelly wanted the game to continue, especially since his team was favored to win. It was indeed a harrowing experience for the two-time World Series champion.
