Rafael Devers has had a tough run with the Boston Red Sox ever since they made him a designated hitter. Devers, who was primarily the team’s third baseman, was shifted to the DH spot after Alex Bregman joined the team. Devers was unhappy with the change since he wanted to play defense as well.
The Red Sox star voiced his concern before the season, saying he would not give up his position. However, the franchise talked him out of it, and he agreed to stay a DH. The only issue is that Devers has been a disaster as a DH. It’s unsure if playing defense has helped him hit or not. But the fact that he’s not performing has something to do with the position change.
Many have sympathized with Rafel Devers, including former MLB star A. J. Pierzynski. He thinks that Devers is not a fan of being a DH and that could have affected his performance.
“Some people said he was overweight. I mean, the bottom line is the guy doesn’t like the DH. It’s very hard to find people that like to DH okay. I hate to DH. When you catch every day and they’re like go sit over there and take four pinch hits at-bats, it sucks,” Pierzynski said. “David Ortiz, Edgar Martinez, and every other guy complain about not playing the field. How many guys have you seen this happen to? DH is not an easy thing to do, especially if you’re used to playing every day.”
Rafael Devers Finally Breaks Slump As Alex Corra Offers Support

Devers was in a bad spot, he got off to a disappointing start. The slugger went 0-for-21 and struck out 15 times. While fans started to question his struggles, Devers finally broke his slump and recorded a game-winning hit.

Red Sox manager Alex Cora dismissed fans’ theories, saying he was in a bad spot mechanically.
“Nah, nah, nah. He’s just in a bad spot mechanically. He’s been grinding through it. It’s not the start we wanted, not the start he wanted. But it’s not related to the DH,” Alex Cora said.
Rafael Devers will pick up the pace in time. As for the third base position, Alex Bregman will continue for now. Meanwhile, the Red Sox are all set to take on the Orioles. Bregman is predicted to smash a home run today.
