New York Yankees slugger Aaron Judge is off to an insane start in 2025, and former MLB player and analyst Mark DeRosa thinks it’s time we start putting his dominance into historical perspective.
Appearing on MLB Central, DeRosa dropped a bold comparison, lining up Judge’s last 154 games against Barry Bonds’ legendary 2001 season, where he smashed 73 homers.
“I just, on a nightly basis, have watched Aaron Judge dominate the sport offensively,” DeRosa said.
“The fact that he’s 6-foot-7, plays center and right field, and handles all the pressure, he’s doing things we don’t even realize in the moment”, the former MLB star added.

“We Are Watching Peak Bonds Jude Every Night” – Mark DeRosa

DeRosa’s comparison doesn’t seem far-fetched, as the numbers are shockingly close. Judge, over his last 154 games, is hitting .371 with 62 home runs and 157 RBIs. He has posted a .498 on-base percentage and a .784 slugging percentage. Advanced metrics are just as eye-popping: a 252 wRC+ and 13.9 fWAR.

Now compare that to Barry Bonds in 2001. Bonds batted .328 with 73 homers, 137 RBIs, a .515 OBP, and an absurd .863 slugging percentage. His 235 wRC+ and 12.5 fWAR remain benchmarks of offensive dominance.
“We’re watching peak Bonds Judge every night”, DeRosa claimed.
And Judge isn’t just riding momentum from last season. In 2025, he has been even better. Heading into May, he leads all of MLB with a .427 batting average, has already hit 10 homers, driven in 32 runs, and boasts a 1.282 OPS through 31 games. He is currently at the top of the MVP conversation and deservedly so.
While Judge signed a 9-year, $360 million contract in 2023, DeRosa joked that he might be underpaid for what he is producing right now.
Aaron Judge will next be seen in action against the Tampa Bay Rays on Friday at Yankee Stadium.
