Gerrit Cole shared the most devastating news for Yankees fans after experts suggested he may need Tommy John surgery. The Bronx Bombers are in a pickle without their ace as they enter an uncertain 2025 season.
Cole will undergo Tommy John and not pitch for the rest of the season. The ace took to social media to share an emotional message while he broke the news.
“From the time I first dreamed of wearing the Yankees uniform, my goal has always been to help bring a World Series championship to New York. That dream hasn’t changed—I still believe in it, and I’m more determined than ever to achieve it. Today, the most respected medical experts in the field recommend that I undergo Tommy John surgery. This isn’t the news any athlete wants to hear, but it’s the necessary next step for my career,” Gerrit Cole wrote.
It’s going to take a while for Cole to return. The Yankees must make a run for the World Series without their top pitcher. However, Cole is confident that he will have a strong comeback.
“I have a lot left to give, and I’m fully committed to the work ahead. I’ll attack my rehab every day and support the 2025 Yankees each step of the way. I love this game, I love competing, and I can’t wait to be back on the mound—stronger than ever. See you soon. —G,” Cole wrote on Instagram.

Amy Crawford has always been a strong supporter of her husband. Despite the devastating news, Amy took to social media to comment on Cole’s message. Like her husband, Amy believes Cole will have a comeback year next season.
“GC 2.0 about to be crazy,” Amy wrote with a fire emoji.

It’s been a hard year for Cole but a more challenging year for the Yankees. The Bronx Bombers have been hit with multiple injuries this season, and Yankees fans are upset to see their ace stay out for the rest of the season.
The Bronx Bombers can only hope for Luis Gil to return, but they must also consider trading for another pitcher. Brain Casham is already considering other pitchers.
