Seems like it’s still bitter between Gleyber Torres and Brian Cashman. The New York Yankees put aside the thoughts of a contract extension during free agency. Though he deep down knew what was on Cashman’s mind as he was focused on other priorities despite a clear communication between the two camps.
Torres, now proudly donning the Detroit Tigers uniform and he is happier than ever. The 2x All-Star recently took a subtle jab at his former team during a recent spring training game. After hitting his first home run at Joker Marchant Stadium, Torres expressed his desire to be part of an organization that truly values him.
“I feel I deserve to be with an organization that wants me. I’m here now, and that’s the reason I’m here,” Torres said. “I don’t know. Maybe you can ask him[Cashman],” he added when asked about his true feelings about the Yanks not wanting him.

He is feeling betrayed after the team management did not consider him despite being heavily considered for a contract extension. He was once considered a key asset following his crucial role in the Aroldis Chapman trade.
While he did not name names, the implications of his remarks were clear. He’s coming open about the disconnect between himself and the Yankees’ camp. With Yankees general manager Cashman ultimately responsible for the decision to move on from him, Torres’ now desire for affirmation and support that he felt was lacking in his previous environment.

Gleyber Torres Gives Honest Reason For Joining The Tigers
The situation between Gleyber Torres and the Yankees is not going to settle down as easily. But as far as he’s enjoying his time at the Tigers camp, he’s good for now. As Torres is off to a fresh start in Detroit, he’s opening up about the real motivation behind joining the team.
During a candid interview, the former Yankees infielder shared that his decision resulted from several conversations with legendary figures in the organization. Talking to former stars like Miguel Cabrera and Victor Martinez, along with his ex-teammate Gio Urshela, gave him clarity.
“I had a really good conversation with Gio Urshela, for sure, Miguel Cabrera, and also for a long time, Victor Martinez, one of the people to help me during my career,” Torres said. “Those three guys playing Detroit, also Miggy, we know the history and how good they play in Detroit. They gave me really good advice.”

One of the driving factors behind Torres’s move was the opportunity to lead a young team. After spending years deferring to the likes of Aaron Judge in New York, he’s looking forward to the chance to step up and contribute on a daily basis in Detroit. With the Tigers finishing strong last year with a Wild Card spot, he sees potential for growth and is eager to be a part of that journey.
