It was a heated night at the Great American Ballpark, but not just because of the scoreboard. Tensions flared between the Yankees and Reds as Jazz Chisholm Jr. got tossed. Chisholm was ejected, and a former player is being blamed for helping make it happen.
Chisholm, who was in the middle of a solid night both at bat and on the bases, was ejected in the sixth inning following an exchange with the home plate umpire. But Yankees manager Aaron Boone believes there’s more to the story, and is pointing a finger at his own former player, Jose Trevino.
The incident unfolded in the top of the ninth during a tight game against the Reds. Chisholm, visibly frustrated from a questionable strikeout call earlier, kept exchanging words with home plate umpire Mark Wegner.
Boone Suggests Jose Trevino Played A Role In Jazz Chisholm’s Ejection

As tensions built, Wegner warned him to get back to third base and prepare for the bottom of the inning. But the Bahamian slugger continued to express his displeasure, and that’s when Wegner tossed him from the game.

Boone had to intervene twice as Jazz Chisholm refused to back down. The Yankees manager supported Chisholm, saying he should not have been tossed during the game.

“There’s a pretty strong case Jazz shouldn’t have been tossed,” Boone said postgame. “I believe Jose Trevino contributed to it,” noting that the former Yankee had directed Wegner’s attention toward Chisholm at third base.
Chisholm, who had a solid outing before the ejection, was stunned. “I didn’t get tossed for saying nothing crazy,” Jazz Chisholm said. “Didn’t get tossed saying, ‘Oh, that was a bad pitch,’ I got tossed for saying, ‘Why are you looking at me? I don’t think that’s a good reason to toss anybody.”
The game, already hanging in the balance, slipped away in extras as the Yankees fell 5-4 and dropped the three-game series. It’s not the first time Chisholm has been involved in arguments. The slugger had issues with opponent players as well.
