J.D. Martinez is still one of the top sluggers in the free agent market. While several teams have been after the six-time All-Star, none could pull off a deal. Martinez has more time since there is a month left for the regular season.
The veteran slugger has been involved in several trade rumors since his free agency. Not many teams are considered to be the right landing spot for Martinez. However, the New York Yankees have emerged as the perfect destination for the slugger. The Yankees need a designated hitter to take on Giancarlo Stanton’s position.
Since there is no timeline for Stanton’s return, they are poised to bring in J.D. Martinez to fill the spot. The Yanks could easily pick up the All-Star by offering him a one-year contract. While Martinez cannot really replace Stanton, he will be a substantial addition to the team.
The slugger smashed 16 home runs for the New York Mets in 120 games. The Yankees need not look at him as a long-term solution, but they can surely add a veteran like. Martinez for now. Since he’s waiting to find a home, they might be able to secure an easy deal.

MLB Insider Jon Heyman Says The Yankees Have Been In Touch With J.D. Martinez
MLB insider Jon Heyman mentioned that the Yankees have been in touch with J.D. Martinez. While there are no further details, something is certainly brewing. Stanton’s absence will undoubtedly cost the team. The Yankees cannot sit and wait for him to return and get back to his old shape immediately.
Stanton has missed spring training and will need to attend a few rehab sessions. According to Heyman, it’s hard to bring him in.

“There’s been some contact with J.D. Martinez. But it might be hard to figure out how to bring him in as a stopgap player because there’s surely hope and expectation for Stanton to return,” Heyman said via Sporting News.
Heyman also mentioned earlier that the Yankees are broke. Yet, it’s unclear if they are broke enough to pursue J.D. Martinez. For now, the Yanks need to lean to a designated hitter. Another option would be placing Jasson Dominguez as a DH, but that’s something they will need to figure out. On the other hand, Nolan Arenado says he’s not keen on impressing the Bronx Bombers.
