Juan Soto hasn’t shied away from the obvious that he hasn’t been at his best. After signing a record-breaking deal with the New York Mets this offseason, expectations were sky-high. But the superstar outfielder hasn’t been able to match that yet.
Following a 4-2 win over the Colorado Rockies, where he broke out of a 0-for-17 slump with a 113 mph RBI double and added a single later, Soto reflects on his sluggish start.
“I know I’ve been struggling, and I haven’t been there for them,” Soto said following Friday night’s 4–2 win over the Rockies. “But I will be… It’s a matter of time. We don’t know when it’s gonna come through, but I’m going to keep working,” Soto said.

This marked just his second multi-hit game in the past three weeks, not what the Mets envisioned when they signed him to a blockbuster $765 million deal.
A Not-So Ideal Start From Juan Soto

While Soto has eight home runs and 26 RBIs so far, he is hitting just .229 on the season – a steep drop from his usual standards. But team president David Stearns added that the slugger may be “trying to do a little too much,” noting he’s hitting more ground balls than usual.

The Mets have won five of their last six but need Soto to be firing on all cylinders if they are to mount a serious playoff push. With Francisco Lindor heating up and the pitching staff holding steady, all eyes will be on Soto to deliver, and judging by his words, he knows it.
