Vladimir Guerrero Jr. is known for his towering homers and intense plate presence, but off the field, he is apparently just a big kid, at least according to one of his teammates.
On Thursday’s episode of Foul Territory, Blue Jays outfielder Daulton Varsho gave fans a peek into the clubhouse, calling Guerrero “the ultimate prankster” and “one of the best teammates” in baseball.
“He is the definition of a kid that’s stuck in an adult’s body,” Varsho joked. “He’s always happy-go-lucky… and he deserves it, because he’s played really well.”

Vladimir Guerrero, who recently inked a massive contract to stay in Toronto long-term, has been living up to every bit of his payday. Despite the pressure and paycheck, Varsho says the slugger hasn’t changed. “He doesn’t take the money for granted,” he said. “He’s still going to play hard every day.”
The numbers back that up. Guerrero is averaging .281 with the bat with 11 home runs and 40 RBIs, continuing to be the heart of the Blue Jays’ offense, and is set to be part of the All-Star team.

However, there was a scare on Thursday when Guerrero was drilled in the right forearm by a pitch from Guardians starter Tanner Bibee in the third inning. Though he initially stayed in the game, cameras later showed him wincing during a practice swing. He was pulled shortly after.
The Blue Jays later announced that X-rays came back negative, diagnosing him with a right forearm contusion. Toronto went on to blank Cleveland 6-0 to take the rubber match of their three-game series. The Blue Jays are keeping hopes alive for a strong second-half push in the AL playoff race.
Without Vladimir Guerrero Jr., it’s safe to say that their chances of making the playoffs are pretty slim.
