Kodai Senga exited early from the Mets’ 4-3 win over the Nationals, suffering a strained right hamstring while covering first base. The 32‑year‑old ace pitched an impressive 5 2/3 shutout innings, allowing just one hit, walking one, and striking out five before leaving the game. Mets manager Carlos Mendoza immediately confirmed Senga will land on the 15‑day injured list pending MRI results.

“We have got people coming, and the guys that are healthy now, they will continue to step up,” Mendoza said.
Pete Alonso Feels “Awful” for Kodai Senga’s Unfortunate Injury

Pete Alonso, whose throw led to Senga’s awkward tumble and strain, said he feels “awful” about the injury.
“I still feel awful because, for me, just trying to make a baseball play. Just trying to make a play for my pitcher,” Alonso said after the win.
“I tried to make the best throw I could. It just sucks. I mean, sucks to be involved in that. Senga, he’s one of our guys here, and it sucks. You hate to see anyone go down. And yeah, it sucks being a part of that. … I wish it wouldn’t have turned out like that.”

This comes amid an outstanding season for Senga, who MLB recently snubbed for the National League Cy Young Award poll. He entered Thursday leading MLB with a 1.47 ERA across 12 starts, with a 7-3 record.
Talking about the game, the Mets took a 4-0 lead early thanks to a three-run blast by Jeff McNeil in the first and a solo shot by Brandon Nimmo in the fifth. Nationals briefly rallied in the ninth, plating two runs on three singles and tampering pressure, but Edwin Diaz locked it down for his 15th save.
With this win, the Mets have surged to a 45-24 record, firmly leading the NL East.
