The Chicago Cubs stayed red hot with a 3-1 win over the Colorado Rockies at Wrigley Field on Monday night, improving to 8-2 in their last 10 games. Starter Jameson Taillon was dominant, retiring the first 14 batters he faced and finishing with seven strikeouts in 6 1/3 innings of one-run ball.
The Cubs struck early when Ian Happ scored on a Dansby Swanson groundout in the first. After the Rockies tied it up on a Mickey Moniak solo homer in the fifth, the Cubs bounced right back, thanks to a clutch RBI single from Kyle Tucker, who later added a sacrifice fly in the seventh.
It was Tucker’s postgame Instagram that really made noise. The outfielder, who is set to become a free agent next season, posted an image from the win with the caption:
“We ain’t no puppies. We some DAWGS.”
Rockies Hit Rock Bottom After Loss To Cubs

Colorado fell to 9-45, the worst team in modern MLB history at this point this season. They have now lost eight of their last nine, and despite flashes of potential, the team continues to unravel.
Starter Carson Palmquist (0-3) pitched a solid five innings, giving up just three hits and two runs in his third MLB start. But the offense once again came up short. Aside from Mickey Moniak’s solo homer, his fifth of the year, the Rockies failed to generate any real threat.

Their best chance came in the sixth when they put runners on second and third with one out. But a smart throw home by Nico Hoerner erased Jacob Stallings at the plate, and Michael Toglia struck out looking to end the inning.
The Colorado Rockies will face the Chicago Cubs again on Tuesday night.
