New York Yankees pitcher Luis Gil has kept fans hanging for a long time with his injury. Despite missing a key piece on their starting rotation, the Bronx Bombers have come a long way. Gil’s return will only add extra firepower and strengthen their run in the postseason.
Gil was poised to return soon, but things got worse when his recovery was prolonged. The good news is that Gil has taken a closer step toward returning, as he’s made great progress. Yankees manager Aaron Boone recently shared the latest update on Gil.
Yankees beat reporter Greg Joyce shared the news on X. Along with Gil, Jazz Chisholm Jr. has also made progress.
“Jazz Chisholm Jr. is scheduled to go through a full workout tomorrow and then could go out on a rehab assignment later in the week, per Boone. Luis Gil should get off the mound for the first time on Friday,” Joyce wrote.

Gil will throw a couple of bullpen sessions and face hitters soon. He will also need a couple of rehab outings before he gets back in the big leagues. Given his progress, he’s expected to return before the All-Star Break. Yankees GM Brian Cashman also mentioned that Gil will return sometime during mid-summer.
Yankees fans have dearly missed Gil and Giancarlo Stanton’s absence. Stanton has progressed with his injury and is expected to return to the lineup. Gil’s lateral strain has been a huge problem, causing trouble for the Yankees.
To make things worse, Gerrit Cole’s Tommy John surgery put the rotation in trouble. Yet, the Yanks pulled it off with Carlos Rodon, Clarke Schmidt, Will Warren, and Max Fried. Luis Gil’s strong strikeout ability and dominance can be used on the team.
Last season, the rookie posted a strong 3.55 ERA with 214 Ks. He held a spectacular 1.23 WHIP with a 16-8 record. The Yanks have still been on top of their game and are ranked at No. 3 in the Week 9 MLB power rankings.
