The Yankees are staying cautious with Luis Gil, and now we know why.
The breakout star from 2024, who hasn’t pitched a single game this season, is currently on the 60-day injured list with a right lat strain. However, manager Aaron Boone gave a positive update, revealing that Gil is about 10 to 14 days away from facing live hitters, and his return isn’t expected until after the All-Star break.
Luis Gil is still about 10-14 days from facing hitters, Aaron Boone said. Doing the math, that sets him up for a post All-Star break return, possibly late July or sometime in August.

The 27-year-old righty resumed throwing off a mound in late May, his first bullpen since the injury. While progress has been steady, the Yankees are in no rush to force him back.
Hunter Dobbins Terrorizes Yankees’ Offense In Series Win

The Yankees dropped a 4-3 game to the Red Sox on Saturday at Fenway. Rookie Hunter Dobbins wowed with six shutout innings and five strikeouts, blanking New York for the second time this week.
Starter Carlos Rodon took the loss, allowing four runs over five-plus innings. Though the team has been rotating arms and relying on depth, there is no question that Gil’s return will boost the pitching strength. The Yankees will likely give him a rehab stint in the minors before activating him in late July or early August, if all goes to plan.
