Luis Gil had an excellent season with the New York Yankees last year. The pitcher won the AL Rookie of the Year award. His stellar performance helped the team make it to the World Series. Gil quickly established himself on the main roster in his rookie year.
The pitcher went on to play alongside Cy Young award winners like Gerrit Cole. However, his 2025 season started with a disaster. Gil was sidelined with an injury and expected to miss opening day. The Yankees rotation has taken a significant hit without Gil. Yet, the young pitcher is confident amid his setback.
Gil experienced a high-grade lat strain and could take a few months to return. At present, there is no timeline for him to get on the mound. Recently, Luis Gil took to Instagram to share a story with a powerful message.
“God knows what he does even if you don’t understand. He is your strength. In times of affliction, God knows what he does. See you soon fans,” Gil wrote.

Gil is waiting to pitch and continue his success with the Yankees. The pitcher had a strong 15-7 record and a decent 3.50 ERA. He struck out 171 opponent hitters and had a spectacular 1.19 WHIP.

The Yankees have Max Fried, who is basically taking Nestor Cortes’ place. Carlos Rodon and Cole will continue to play their positions. Stroman will step in to take Gil’s place until he returns. Stroman pitched out of the bullpen at the end of last season, but he refuses to be a bullpen pitcher this time.
With Gil sidelined, the Bronx Bombers have no option but to bring in Stroman. The Yankees have had several injury setbacks this season. Giancarlo Stanton is out, and they need to win as much as possible with the remaining healthy players.
The rest of the pitchers will play a crucial role for the team. Yankees fans are upset with Luis Gil’s injury and they hope to have him back in the lineup soon. On the other hand, Jazz Chisholm Jr. defended Shohei Ohtani against NLF star Travis Hunter.
