Manny Machado might have been a Dodger, but he’s certainly one of their biggest rivals right now. Machado has called out the Dodgers not once, but many times. The slugger has also taken a shot at Dave Roberts every now and then. However, this time he didn’t hold back with his bold comment.
The long-standing rivalry between the San Diego Padres and Los Angeles Dodgers reached a boiling point once again. Both teams targeted hitters by drilling them with fastballs. Their last series turned out to be chaos as both managers were ejected. Dave Roberts pushed Mike Shildt, and things turned out to be nasty.
Following the incident, Manny Machado publicly criticized Dave Roberts for wanting a confrontation but then avoiding it.
“I think (Roberts) wanted some smoke. Shildty said, ‘What’s up, let’s go. Where you at?’ I guess (Roberts) stayed on the other side. I guess you just kind of want that smoke with just fans watching (and) your team behind you, not solo. So, yeah, I mean, we’re still waiting,” Machado said.

According to Machado, the brawl stayed around the Dodgers’ side. He felt that Dave Roberts confronted Shildt only because he knew he had players around him for support.

It’s not the first time the Dodgers have drilled Fernando Tatis Jr. Likewise, Padres players have hit Dodgers stars, and the battles keep going back and forth. Machado was clearly unhappy with how things went down in their last series.
“I mean it’s, I don’t know, eight, nine, 10 in a row already, last three or four years. They need to set a little candle up for Tati tomorrow and hope that everything comes back negative. That’s not a good spot to get hit. I don’t care who it is. I don’t care who’s on the mound. It was five years in a year. That’s just unacceptable,” Machado said via SI.com.
The tension between the Dodgers and Padres has only worsened over the years. As for Manny Machado, he continues to voice his opinion on the team.
