The New York Mets’ offense has been under scrutiny as the team continues to search for consistency at the plate. Despite Juan Soto, Francisco Lindor, and Pete Alonso, the team barely scores runs. They lost against the Yankees and now against the Red Sox.
Soto and company have lost five of the last six games. It’s been a tough run for the team in the last week, and their MLB power rankings are sure to drop. The pitching rotation has been great, but the overall ability to score runs despite having a top slugger is evident.
MLB insider Mike Rodriguez mentioned that sources point to a possible Triple-A prospect to enter the big leagues.
“According to my sources, the Mets’ weak offensive performance has led to considering the possibility of calling up Ronny Mauricio from AAA. This player has performed excellently, as he has achieved 5 hits in 9 at-bats, including a double and a home run. If Mauricio continues on this path and the team’s offense does not improve, his call-up could be imminent,” Rodriguez wrote.

Adding infielder Ronny Mauricio might help the team. Or perhaps it’s an experiment they need to try. On the other hand, the team must make space on their roster by letting someone go.

Mauricio endured a challenging journey over the past 18 months. After tearing his ACL in December 2023, he underwent two surgeries and missed the entire 2024 season. Inflammation and setbacks delayed his recovery, causing him to miss all of the 2025 spring training as well.
The slugger is activated from the injured list and optioned to Syracuse. In his first two games, the 24-year-old recorded five hits in nine at-bats, including two extra-base hits, a double, and a home run.
Mauricio’s offensive power can be perfect for the Mets. However, it’s a trial-and-error situation and a risk they must be willing to take. The team already has a roster packed with top sluggers. It might be hard for them to let go of one. Recently, Steve Cohen shared a strong message to the team and its fans after their loss.
