The New York Mets are facing a pivotal moment after losing Kodai Senga to a hamstring injury. The team holds the best ERA in the league, and a huge part of that success has come from Senga. With a stellar 1.47 ERA, Senga tops the list, and the team holds a strong 2.80 ERA.
Senga is the National League’s top pitcher this year, but his hamstring injury forced him onto the IL. The good news is Frankie Montas and Sean Manaea are nearing their return from the IL. However, the team has gathered trade requests for another pitcher.
MLB insider Joel Sherman recently mentioned that the club is receiving calls from other teams for Paul Blackburn.
“As the Mets rotation moves closer to full health and a potential logjam, the team has begun to get inquiries about trading Paul Blackburn, two sources told The Post,” Sherman wrote via the New York Post.

“Frankie Montas has one rehab start remaining and perhaps two. Sean Manaea is a little further behind that. But if they return and the Mets incur no other rotation injuries, the team would have eight starters for five spots,” Sherman continued.
The Mets will have a crowded pitching staff once Manaea and Montas return. That said, it’s possible for the team to consider trading Paul Blackburn.

Mets Will Not Part Ways With Paul Blackburn Easily

Senga’s injury has been a huge blow for the team, and they will not part ways with Blackburn easily. Yet, if they get a good deal, they could send him off and emerge as buyers before the MLB trade deadline.
Steve Cohen is not going to buy any more offensive players since they already have enough. With several sluggers at their prime and performing with the best of the ability, they will not trade any hitter or buy one.
With their pitching rotation full, the only thing they could do is probably part ways with a pitcher. For now, the Mets are expected to stay put and are ranked at No. 2 in the week 11 MLB power rankings.
