Juan Soto signed the biggest contract in sports history with the New York Mets. Many teams highly sought the slugger, but the Mets got the upper hand. Soto’s start in Queens was pretty slow, and many expect more from a $765 million star.
Several players were trade targets irrespective of their free agency status in the offseason. Apart from Soto, former Houston Astros star Kyle Tucker was one of them. Tucker secured a one-year deal with the Chicago Cubs and was undoubtedly one of the top acquisitions in the offseason.
Recently, MLB analyst Ryan Dempster was asked about the better offseason acquisition between Tucker and Juan Soto. Dempster never hesitated to pick Tucker over Soto for living up to his expectations.
“That’s a good question, because if you would ask this like, a couple weeks ago, the obvious answer was Kyle Tucker. But Juan Soto sure has started tearing the cover off. I’m gonna go with Kyle Tucker and I like this pickup. This guy has been exactly as advertised,” Dempster said.

“Look at the numbers across the board on par for what he’s going to do for the season. He walks, he’s got control of the strike zone, right-hander as he hits left-handers, and he’s been exactly that piece in the middle of the lineup that the Cubs needed. I think value to their team, he is probably as important as a piece as we saw this offseason switch teams,” Dempster continued.

Soto is doing his best for the team, and he’s picked up the pace. The slugger hit his eighth home run against the Cubs, leading his team to victory. Fans have high expectations of Soto after his massive contract and often want him to do more.
As for Tucker, he’s off to a great start with the Cubs, and he’s expected to sign an extension after the 2025 season. Both sluggers are great with their performance, but Tucker has 10 home runs and a batting average that’s higher than Juan Soto’s. It’s natural for some people to pick Tucker over Soto. The Mets star recently revealed the mentor behind his offensive success.
