The New York Yankees have a dozen issues to solve before the regular season. The Yanks have injured players and defensive woes. To make things worse, their starting rotation is hurt, and one of their best hitters will not return for a while.
The Bronx Bombers desperately want to make it to the World Series. To be more precise, they want to win it after a disappointing season in 2024. Juan Soto is gone, but they brought Cody Bellinger and veteran slugger Paul Goldschmidt. Defensively, they got rid of Nestor Cortes Jr. and signed Max Fried.
While injured players will return, the Yankees have not addressed their third baseman situation. The franchise will turn to internal options. Oswaldo Cabrera and Oswald Peraza are the top candidates to secure the spot. However, MLB broadcaster Michael Kay thinks the duo will not be a great fit.
“You’re going to go into the season with a combination of Oswaldo and Peraza, I’m not sure you could feel that great about it. I think they could do the job defensively,” Kay said
Michael Kay Thinks Nolan Arenado Will Still Be The Perfect Fit For The Yankees

Nolan Arenado is open to trading, and the Cardinals are ready to grant him his wish. Yet, not many teams have expressed interest in the slugger. The Yanks were the front-runners, and Kay thinks they should consider moving forward.
“I’ve been saying this since the beginning of spring training, it’s such a natural thing to bring Arenado over. And I’ve heard that the Yankees are not that high on him. I keep hearing about the drop-off that Arenado has. He might have a drop-off, but he’s still not a terrible player… I think if the Yankees could get the Cardinals to take Marcus Stroman, I would make that deal,” Kay told The Show with Joel Sherman and Jon Heyman.

Cabrera has good defense experience, and Peraza has to do more work to prove himself. The issue is their offensive stability. As Kay suggests, the Yankees will have a great shot if they bring in Nolan Arenado.
Trading Marcus Stroman will be a tough challenge, but they could try to bolster their lineup with Arenado. Meanwhile, the Dodgers have shared an update on Shohei Ohtani’s pitching schedule.
