Barry Bonds has been a legendary name in MLB for decades. However, his name has been trending more than usual this season. First, it was Aaron Judge drawing comparisons after his monster April. Then Shohei Ohtani had Dodgers’ manager Dave Roberts linking him to Bonds because of his stellar all-around performance.
Now, the controversial Giants legend, who is set to receive his own statue, is back in the conversation, but this time because of James Wood.
During Sunday’s contest between the Washington Nationals and Los Angeles Angels, Wood was intentionally walked four times. Notably, the last player to be intentionally walked 4 times in a game was Barry Bonds on September 22, 2004.

The Nationals’ left fielder’s intentional walks came with men on second and third base in the fifth, a man on second in the seventh, on third in the ninth, and on third in the 11th.
Fans Call For James Wood’s All-Star Inclusion

The Angels’ strategy of giving Woods intentional walks doesn’t come as a surprise, considering the form he has been in this season.

The 22-year-old, who is in his second season in the majors, has been one of the best hitters in baseball this year.
In 84 games, he has the sixth-most home runs (22), fifth-most RBI (64), and seventh-best OPS (.938).
However, it does come as a surprise that Wood has yet to be part of an All-Star team, and fans echoed the same sentiments on social media.

The 2025 MLB All-Star Game is set to take place on Tuesday, July 15, at Truist Park in Atlanta. Shohei Ohtani and Aaron Judge have automatically secured starting spots after topping their respective leagues in votes.
But even with all the star power, it would still be tough, especially for the Nationals fans, not to see James Wood in the All-Star starting team.
