It’s a sad day for baseball fans in Arizona as Jordan Montgomery’s time with the Diamondbacks is coming to an end.
Montgomery is set to undergo Tommy John surgery next week. This will be the second time he has faced this procedure, having previously undergone it in 2018. The upcoming surgery, performed by Dr. Keith Meister, is expected to keep him sidelined for all of 2025 and likely a portion of 2026.
Montgomery expressed his frustrations regarding his recovery process. The pitcher detailed how he experienced soreness after a recent game on March 19, which led to postponed bullpen sessions.

Initially hoping for a simple solution through imaging and perhaps a shot, he discovered the extent of his injury was more serious than anticipated.
The left-hander was signed by the Diamondbacks shortly after Opening Day last season after remaining unsigned for an extended period. Originally viewed as a valuable addition to the team, his tenure was marked by struggles.
Jordan finished the season with a 6.23 ERA and ultimately lost his rotation spot. Despite the challenges, Montgomery decided to exercise his player option worth $22.5 million for 2025, aiming to rebuild his value before re-entering the market.

MLB Fans React To Jordan Montgomery’s Tommy John Surgery

The situation surrounding Jordan Montgomery’s tenure with the Arizona Diamondbacks has indeed been challenging.
After a disappointing performance in 2024, where he posted a career-worst ERA and a negative WAR of -1.4, Montgomery was unable to leverage his successful 2023 season.
Initially, he had hoped to sign with the Boston Red Sox, which was reportedly his preferred destination. Instead, he settled for a one-year, $25 million deal with the Diamondbacks, conditional on performance metrics.
Now that he is out for the season, social media fans are taking jibe at the Red Sox dodging a potential unfit signing.

However, Montgomery made 21 starts and appeared in 25 games last year. He finished with an 8-7 record but suffered from increased walk rates and declining strikeout numbers, alongside a significant rise in hits allowed.
Following this troubling season, the Diamondbacks were even exploring trade options for Montgomery before his surgery announcement. Although, it has now eliminated any chance for a rebound.
