The Dodgers vs. Padres series erupted into drama this week. It started when Dodgers pitcher Jack Little plunked Fernando Tatis Jr., igniting a benches-clearing chaos. Then, Padres reliever Robert Suarez hit Dodgers superstar Shohei Ohtani in the ninth, drawing ejections and suspensions.
MLB insider Jon Heyman joined the discussion on the MLB Now show, and he was blunt. He said Suarez “was one of many up to no good,” but praised his honesty. However, the veteran analyst made it clear that Ohtani is not the player who should be hit.
“I understand that it’s a star for a star and an eye for an eye. But Ohtani is on a different level. You can’t hit Ohtani. You just can’t. He is a phenomenon. Find another star to hit. That’s not the guy to hit.”
While many fans agreed with Heyman’s take on the Dodgers vs. Padres game, one Padres fan did not agree with it. He wrote on X, “To be clear Jon Heyman is saying it’s perfectly fine for tatis to get hit three times in a four-game series, but not okay for the Padres to retaliate.”
However, Heyman clarified that he never condoned the repeated hits on Tatis; his point was to go after another player to retaliate. “I didn’t say that. I said if they retaliate, pick someone other than Ohtani,” he explained.

Tense Dodgers vs. Padres Series Comes To Blockbuster End

The firestorm followed a string of hit-by-pitches during the Dodgers vs. Padres Game 4. Tatis had already been hit twice earlier in the series, setting tempers high. Both managers, Mike Shildt and Dave Roberts, were ejected after shoving during the ninth-inning clearing.
Suarez was suspended for three games and fined for hitting Ohtani, and both managers received one‑game suspensions and fines as well.
Despite the chaos, the Padres held on for a 5-3 win, avoiding a sweep. Xander Bogaerts drove the offense, and rookie Ryan Bergert shined with 4 2/3 scoreless innings. Tension between the Dodgers vs. Padres has worsened, and recently, Manny Machado called out Dave Roberts for his actions.
