If you were hoping to see Luis Robert Jr. in a different uniform anytime soon, you might want to pump the brakes.
Over the past week, trade chatter around the White Sox star has picked up steam, with teams like the Mets reportedly kicking the tires. But MLB insider Jon Heyman just threw cold water on the whole thing, saying there’s “nothing hot” going on right now between New York and Chicago.
“No top five [prospect], no top ten, nothing. At this moment, I think it’s close to a salary dump,” Heyman said in a recent Bleacher Report video. “Certainly, if they pay some of it, you’re basically buying the prospects at that point.”
Jon Heyman Believes Luis Robert Jr’s Current Salary “Doesn’t Look Cheap”

Robert’s contract was once considered a steal, $15 million in 2025 with $20 million club options for the following two years. But Heyman stated that a $15 million salary “doesn’t look so cheap at the moment.” “I don’t see any trade materializing for Luis Robert at the moment.”

Notably, Robert Jr. has had a brutal stretch at the plate. After slashing just .224/.278/.379 with 14 home runs in 100 games last season, things have gotten worse in 2025. In 38 games this year, he is hitting .172/.284/.313 with just five home runs.

That’s a far cry from the 2023 version of Robert, who crushed 38 homers, 36 doubles, and posted an .857 OPS with a 130 OPS+, earning his first All-Star selection.
To be fair, Robert is still showing some value. He currently leads all of MLB with 16 stolen bases, and he remains a high-level defender in center field. But his offensive collapse has teams second-guessing.
But until someone meets the White Sox’s steep demands, a deal just isn’t happening.
So for now, Robert Jr. stays put in Chicago until the trade deadline rolls around.
