The New York Yankees added Cody Bellinger and Paul Goldschmidt to their offense this offseason. Their offense is intact, and they have a load of talented players. Furthermore, they acquired Max Fried and Devin Williams to bolster their pitching staff. Yet, they seem to have a vacant spot at third.
The Yanks were believed to be in on Alex Bregman since Jazz Chisholm Jr. is going to move to second base. Brain Cashman turned down all the options for the team to bring in a third baseman. According to Cashman, the Yanks will consider internal options for the position.
However, MLB insider Jon Heyman has a different take on the topic. Heyman believes the Yankees have no money to bring in another third baseman. Having made good use of Juan Soto’s money, the Bronx Bombers have already gone broke.
“I don’t see it. I don’t think they’re adding anybody. I’m told they have no money. I’m not seeing it as I didn’t even get the Red Sox for Arenado. I didn’t get that at all because they were clearly going to have a problem with Devers,” Heyman said.
The insider further mentioned that the team could trade Marcus Stroman and use that money on an infielder.
Yankees Need A Back-Up Plan For Giancarlo Stanton’s Replacement
Giancarlo Stanton has been dealing with injuries and is unlikely to play for the first few months. There’s no particular date for Stanton’s return, but the Yanks need to find a backup plan. They need a player who can hit well after Aaron Judge.

According to Aaron Boone, the Yanks have Everson Pereira as one of the options. While Pereira cannot replace Stanton, he’s expected to play a decent role.
“He’s a guy that I could very much see in the mix at some point, especially (being a) right-handed bat. Maybe he’s not necessarily blocked (from the big-league roster). Maybe there is a role that he carves out for himself,” Boone said via Sporting News.
Pereira’s stint with the Yanks has not been great. The slugger will have a tough burden to carry if he takes on Stanton’s position. The Yankees are expected to change the lineup’s order in Stanton’s absence. Aaron Boone has also revealed when Aaron Judge will play in his first spring training game.
