It’s been more than a decade since the Los Angeles Angels last reached the playoffs. Not every team is lucky enough to have a generational talent like Mike Trout, Aaron Judge, or Shohei Ohtani. The Halos, of course, had Ohtani and still couldn’t make it work.
Sadly, the Angels squandered the opportunity they had with Shohei Ohtani. While Mike Trout remains loyal to the Halos despite their continued absence from the World Series, Ohtani’s outlook was different. Team owner Arte Moreno had the chance to build a legitimate contender for the next decade around him. However, the organization failed to capitalize, and now, MLB insider Ken Rosenthal has outlined what he calls the Angels’ biggest blunder.
“They had some economic benefit, but they didn’t do it to the extent the Dodgers have done it. They have every opportunity and didn’t take advantage of that. Then, they had every opportunity to trade Ohtani, and they didn’t do that. Every step and every stage here, they fell short and they missed an opportunity,” Rosenthal said.
Rosenthal mentioned that the franchise failed to capitalize economically the way the Dodgers did. According to him, the Angels never explored major sponsorship opportunities or maximized Ohtani’s marketability, and now, all they can do is sit back and watch the Dodgers do it instead.
Los Angeles Angels On The Brink As Playoff Window Narrows

It might be too early to push the Halos out of the playoffs, but their chances are undeniably slim. With an 18-25 record, and halfway through before the All-Star break, things are looking bad. To make things worse, Mike Trout’s injury has already cost the team. Anthony Rendon is not going to play this season, and nothing seems to be getting better.

The bullpen is struggling with Ben Joyce out for the season due to surgery. It’s a hard battle ahead, and being in the AL West is not going to make things easy for the team. The Astros, Mariners, Rangers, and Athletics are playing better than the Los Angeles Angels.
Fans are frustrated as many believe that Trout is wasting his career on the team. The Angels are ranked at No. 25 in the Week 7 MLB power rankings.
